Replicating a museum piece from the days of trade between the French fur trappers and the American Indians, The Hanwei Pipe Hawk is fully functional both as a hatchet and a pipe, with a steel blade, bowl and mouthpiece. As in the original, a reaming pin (for clearing the smoke passage) is concelaed in the head of the end of the shaft.

Not quite battle ready The ax will chop if sharpened, but only suitable for light wood-cutting. The pipe feature is functional; however, the chamber cap falls off. You can easily plug it back in. An examination of the cap reveals that the cap is super-glued on. It is not a welded portion of the ax head.

Lesson here: peace pipes-axes are for ceremony. Tomahawks and hatchets are for work and war.

The pipe hawk smokes great. Historicly used to make peace or crack skulls. I’m fully confident this one is battle ready. I wouldn’t suggest chopping dry or hard wood.
